Tulsa Welding School & Technology Center Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting

Tulsa Welding School & Technology Center (TWSTC) hosted a Grand Opening Open House and Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony event on April 9, 2015 at the Houston campus. The Grand Opening Open House had 40 attendees and included campus tours, demonstrations, and information on topics such as how to apply for financial aid. The Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony followed the Open House and was attended by 43 welding-industry employers and local officials including several people from the Northwest Houston Chamber of Commerce and Dru Gutierrez from Commissioner El Franco Lee’s office. These events celebrated the introduction of TWSTC to the city of Houston and the local welding industry as a source for quality welders to help fill the high demand in the region.

Recognizing that the Houston area has the largest employment of welders and related industries of any metropolitan area in the country,* TWSTC continues the longstanding tradition of training welders through hands-on application with the guidance of experienced instructional faculty. According to Campus President Heidi Wind, “It is truly an honor to be a part of the Houston community, and the Tulsa Welding School & Technology Center is excited to be here. We are committed to not only setting the standard of excellence in welding education but to also being a community staple for employers of the welding and pipefitting industry to rely on for integrity-driven graduates ready to work for Houston.”

The Houston campus is located at 243 Greens Road, just east of I-45 and just north of Beltway 8/Sam Houston Parkway, approximately 14 miles north of the Houston city center. This campus contains a training facility of approximately 66,000 square feet, which includes 60 welding lab booths, new equipment, a pipefitting lab, three classrooms, a student commons, and office space. TWSTC offers two programs: Welding Specialist and Welding Specialist with Pipefitting, with the shortest program taking only seven months to complete.

Tulsa Welding School has additional locations in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Jacksonville, Florida. TWS in Tulsa, Oklahoma, has trained individuals for entry-level professional careers since January 1949. Now, the tradition continues at the newest location. Training programs have been designed to meet employers’ needs by providing students with the technical competencies required and are based on industry feedback. Instructors are professionals with industry experience who instruct their students in the techniques and skills needed by employers.
