August 29, 2011 – RSI Instructor Greg Harris has been awarded the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges 2011 Instructor of the Year award. In the award notification letter from ACCSC to Harris they state, “Through this award it is the Commission’s intent to recognize the outstanding contributions that you have made to your profession and to pay tribute to your efforts and the success that you have demonstrated as a graduate from an ACCSC accredited institution, The Refrigeration School.” When asked why Harris was chosen by RSI for nomination, Sherry Jones, Executive Director at RSI states, “Greg exemplifies what it means to be a teacher through his passion and commitment to the industry.”
Harris has been an instructor at RSI for over 3 years. During this time he championed a new instructor development program and a new student recognition program that seeks to promote and identify students of character, talent, mechanical aptitude and commitment to excellence and the HVAC/R industry. Harris provides leadership and oversight for RSI’s Instructor Development and Training using a combination of commercially available materials as well as his own written content and material. He has set himself apart as a dedicated coach and mentor, providing excellent guidance through the on-board and training that occurs at RSI.
According to RSI, his influence on RSI’s hands-on training, specifically the new Distinguished Graduates Program has allowed RSI to forge strong relationships with the industry and employers throughout the Phoenix Valley. Employers value the Distinguished Graduates Recognition and seek to employ students who achieve one of three levels of distinction. Mary Kelly, President of the ownership group for RSI notes, “Greg was meant to be a teacher. He wants to show his students what he knows and will try every approach he can to help his students achieve their goal. I have never seen Greg sitting at a desk in front of the classroom. He is always walking around helping students. He is the epitome of a world class instructor.”
Harris and his wife will be flown to Long Beach, California to receive his award at the annual ACCSC meeting in September.
