Ingalls Shipbuilding, the largest supplier of U.S. Navy surface combatants, visited Tulsa Welding School & Technology Center (TWSTC) on August 7th to test students for pipe welding and pipefitting jobs.
6 students were tested during the 2-week course, and all 6 passed. They were offered jobs at the Ingalls Shipyard in Pascagoula, MS. Jimmy Fields, the hiring manager, said they would have been happy to have hired one candidate, let alone 6.
Ingalls Shipbuilding is planning a second round of testing in October. TWSTC wants to have 15-20 candidates ready to be tested by then.
